# Configure and Pair Socket Mobile Devices in Application Mode with Companion

Guide for pairing Socket Mobile barcode scanners and contactless readers in Application Mode using the Socket Mobile Companion app. The Companion app handles device discovery and connection management. Covers installing the Companion app (available on iOS App Store, Android Google Play and Windows GitHub releases), configuration barcode scanning, and platform-specific pairing procedures.

First install our **Socket Mobile Companion app** (chose a tab to get the right link below for your platform) which takes care of the discovery and the selection of the reader to connect to.

Then initialize **Capture Helper**. Please refer to [Capture Helper initialization](/docs/using-capturesdk/capture-helper).

> The way Bluetooth Classic works, the scanner initiates the connection to the host device. On the contrary of Bluetooth Low Energy where an application initiates the connection.

## Configure and Pair Scanners in Application Mode

To use the scanner with an application using CaptureSDK, the scanner must be configured in Application Mode.
